April Lyon — Escrow Officer

April Lyon is a Central Texas, Highland Lakes gal through and through. She grew up on the shore of Inks Lake and claims it was difficult to be bored as a child. “Being at the lake, the activities and adventure possibilities were endless,” she laughs. And although she set out for the Big Apple  after graduation, she realized quickly that there was no place she’d rather be than back in the Texas Hill Country. “There was a lot of culture shock, of course,” she says, “and I was no longer aApril Lyon with Independence Title Sign big fish in a small pond. I was a very tiny fish in a HUGE pond.”

She came back home and settled in Marble Falls, where she started working in the accounting department of a process serving company for the state. Eventually, she decided that staring at a screen all day, was not what she wanted to do. She had started a family and was ready for a change. She saw an opening for a receptionist position at a small local title company and jumped right into the world of Title Insurance. Within 6 months, she had transitioned into an escrow assistant and got licensed as a closer the next year. “I did a little of everything with my first company and took as many classes from the TLTA (Texas Land Title Association) as I could,” she says. “I’ve been an escrow officer for 3 years and I love it!”

That little company became part of Independence Title in August of 2019, and she is thrilled to be part of the family. “The support at Independence Title is outstanding. When I need something, I reach out and I get an answer quickly. It’s phenomenal!” she says.

April Lyon at the Closing TableShe says that being a closer is not a “paper pusher” type job and understands how important these transactions are to her clients.  People are often surprised to learn that April is mom to five children. “This house full of kids is great for my job,” she laughs. “I definitely know how to read a room and have lots of empathy for people. Closings are not always joyful occasions for people, though I love it when they are, especially when they’re first-time home buyers!”

When April is not working, she and her family are all about adventures and experiences. Whether it is traveling, playing, coaching, and volunteering with youth sports, or enjoying museums and the Imax theatre, they love being active. April even finds time to enjoy one of her passions – acting! “I love being part of the community theatre. It’s fun to get to be someone else for a while.”
