Zana King – Escrow Officer

Zana King had no plans to be an escrow officer, and says she got into the business by accident. She had gone to work for a law firm in Dallas thinking that she wanted to pursue a law degree, and the law firm specialized in foreclosures and title. She was trained in every part of the business from copy clerk, to abstractor, to title examiner and escrow assistant. “So, I joke that I came into this business kicking and screaming, but the truth is that I absolutely love it.”

Zana grew up in west Texas and spent summers and holidays in Austin as a kid. “My older sister fell in love with a musician and I fell in love with Austin,” she laughs. “Stevie Ray Vaughan became my brother-in-law and I hung out with some pretty cool people growing up. My husband and I finally moved back here in 1993.” She began working for a very busy escrow officer as an assistant, and by 1996, she was a licensed escrow officer.

When Independence Title opened its doors in 2005, she got an offer to join the team and accepted right away. “This will be my 20th year working with Brian Pitman and Judith Sullings,” she says. “So many of us have worked together for decades, and this is my second family.” Zana says one of the best things about Independence is that “we are encouraged to have fun in what we do. I love that!”

Zana enjoys solving title problems and helping clients get to the closing table. “Watching someone buy their dream home is one of the most special events I could witness,” she says. “It makes me happy to hand someone their keys or tell a seller we’ve funded.”

She feels fortunate to manage and work with a great team in the Leander office. “We all work hard, and we like to play hard. We don’t do drama, we do teamwork. I couldn’t do it without this group.”

Zana is active with the Texas Land Title Association (TLTA) and serves on the Board of Trustees for the TLTA PAC. “I think that being involved in the association for our profession is vital. Education is key, and using all the resources our industry has to offer has been invaluable to me,” she says.

It’s not all about work though. “I love living on the lake with the love of my life,” she grins. She enjoys playing in Lake Travis, gardening, cooking and traveling. “We’ve done a lot of international travel, and now we want to explore more of the U.S.”

Next time your business takes you to Leander, stop in and say hi to Zana and her team!
